Hot on the heels of Bing announcing the very same thing, Google has announced the unthinkable. They too are finally opening their doors to let in the tweets. From their official blog post on the matter…

Given this new type of information and its value to search, we are very excited to announce that we have reached an agreement with Twitter to include their updates in our search results. We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data, and we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months. That way, the next time you search for something that can be aided by a real-time observation, say, snow conditions at your favorite ski resort, you’ll find tweets from other users who are there and sharing the latest and greatest information.

Many photographers are already deeply rooted in Twitter but some have been holding out. Waiting for a real measurable level of ROI before jumping head first into the real-time social media pond. Until now there was some negligible SEO value in twitter, in terms of inbound links, but nothing that would make twittering an essential SEO tool.  We’ll have to see just how this integration plays out but I think the Social Networking for SEO argument just became a whole lot more interesting and the long time tweeters may hold an advantage in terms of established followers and longevity but only time will tell. (read that as holding out on twitter may have put you a bit behind on the SEO game)

We’ll keep you updated, but in the meantime what do you think of this new Google/Twitter lovefest announcement?
