The Register informs us that in a sudden outbreak of common sense, the Metropolitan Police have advised their officers to remember that it is not, in fact, a crime to photograph on city streets. UK DWFers have, in the recent past, reported being questioned by police or driven off public property during wedding or portrait shoots under a misguided interpretation of the Terrorism Act of 2000.

While officers are still permitted to inspect photographs to see if they could be of use to terrorists, they may only do so with some reasonable suspicion that the photographer may actually be up to no good.

I have mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand, I’m all about free speech and individual liberty. On the other hand, I’d like to see more wedding photographers jailed.

More information is also available from the Met’s own website.
