If anyone knows photography conventions it’s Skip Cohen. Before striking out on his own and forming Marketing Essentials International (AKA Skip’s Photo Network) Skip was the former President of Rangefinder Publishing and WPPI.
On his blog amongst some other really useful stuff, Skip has posted his “13 Tips on Getting the MOST Out of a Convention!“. My personal favorite is #6:
6) Network, network, network – since you’re there early to get a seat in a program then utilize the time wisely and talk to the people around you. Try to never have dinner alone or with the same people – bring along a newbie, somebody you’ve just met at the show. This has always been the coolest part of WPPI for me personally – the friendships you can make just sitting and talking to people. Remember, everybody is dealing with the same challenges you are – the economy, creativity, growing your business, marketing etc.
Read all 13 tips and I’ll add a DWF #14 to the list. Be sure to follow our Special Events twitter feed. On our special “Events” only twitter feed we’ll be posting DWF GTG and whereabout while following the rule “No Events, No Tweets.“
