Apologies for the blatant use condom euphemism but I’ll be damned if that is not what this reminds me of. So, besides being reminiscent of a big ol’ camera condom, the OUTEX is a pretty unique covering system for your DSLR that allows a few “Base” models to be customized to many different camera bodies and as you can see in the video above it appears to hold up to some fairly extreme conditions.
I can think of a few times where I could have really put one of these to good use. Right now I’m thinking I need one for kayaking/canoeing or even the odd wedding in extreme weather. This particular wedding comes to mind as I was standing outside of the tent with an umbrella in a total downpour for over 20 minutes. It sucked and I really put my gear in danger that day.
Dear God did that day suck! Still curious as to how it works? So was I so here’s another video showing how the OUTEX is installed. It looks like a bit of work but as we all know sometimes getting “the shot” is worth a bit of extra effort.
What do you guys think?

Whatever happened to the totally sealed L-lenses and pro bodies? For light spray or even being rained on intermittently, you would think that would be enough.
I think this would only be needed for underwater type work. Seems like a lot of work to put it on, and you loose access to your controls.
Hmmm…at first I thought it could be viable. Something to throw in the gear bag in the event of bad weather. The install seems really difficult and prone to leakage, especially with repeated use. It also seems like during the install you could turn your control knob and not be able to set it back easily.
I remember an Israeli company making some solid rain protection gear for cheaper that was really nice. Forgot the name.
