DWF - Let's start off with a little bio, tell us a little bit about yourself.
STACEY - Well, I'm located in Providence Rhode
Island, living with my fabulous husband, Paul, and 2
fur-balls (an 8lb cat, Peggy & an 90lb dog, Guinness).
I have been involved in photography since finding the
Time Life photography series in my childhood basement
around the age of 10. I won 3rd place in my grade school
science project taking apart a Brownie & explaining the
photographic process (I think the ribbon was green).
My first working camera was a Kodak Pocket Instamatic
110 camera. During photo school I moved to the Minolta
t101 (still have it and love it), and then I jumped ship
to Nikon World, buying my first ever new body, a black
FM2 (mmm, still own that as well).
Non-photographically speaking, I love: shoes, hand bags,
bargain shopping, beer (not bargain beer), hanging out
with friends and family, fixing up the house we bought
in June, our animals, Sundance & IFC channels, The
MythBusters, and Pushing Daisies (when is that coming
back on??).

DWF - How did you become a wedding photographer?
STACEY - I started work as an assistant for a
local Providence photog. My main duties were light
set-up girl, phone & appointment taking girl, and
darkroom girl. But he upgraded me to help shoot weddings
soon after.
I thought it would be a night of vaseline on the uv
filters (old school soft focus), puffy crinoline
sleeves, and excessive boredom.
Turns out, I was wrong. Half way through my first event
shooting with him, I forgot that I was 'working'. I was
having so much fun, time passed without my knowledge. It
was love, so to speak.
I worked with this gentleman for approx. 2 years, then
went to work for a year in a commercial studio (not for
me, at all!), got laid off (woohoo!) and decided it was
the perfect time to figure out how to go it alone.
I haven't looked back.

DWF- Who or what inspires you as an artist?
STACEY - Who, would be my husband (he's a
professional photog as well. Commercial is the day job,
and b&w rangefinder work is his passion).
Beyond that, to go into naming specific folks, I'd have
to go on for pages & pages. I find those that embrace
passion in their lives, that are willing to share &
teach, people who aren't afraid to take risks.
A handful of photographers that I enjoy: Lee
Friedlander, William Eggleston, Mary Ellen Mark, David
Lachapelle, Garry Winogrand, Walker Evans, Irving Penn,

DWF- If we needed a photographer today why would we book you? What makes you unique?
STACEY - Because I'm Stacey Doyle. ;-)
OK, seriously, what makes me unique is pretty much what
makes everyone unique.
You're your own person, you approach things in your own
way, in a way that makes you feel comfortable. In a way
that feels right. It's always so cool to see how
different people view the same event or scene. It amazes
me how many different ways one moment in time or one
solitary object can be interpreted.
It comes down to personality as well. I'm alot of fun to
hang out with ;-)

DWF- If you had to pick a favorite "Tool of the Trade" what would it be? and why?
STACEY - My favorite right now would be my D3.
Tomorrow it could be my 20mm. The other night it was my
ShootSac.

DWF - Care to share your favorite photograph? and tell us a bit about it?
STACEY -

I love breaks in the day like this. During all the
hubbub & chaos of the getting ready, when a moment of
genuine tenderness shows it self.

Everyone has a shot like this. This is one of my favs of
'this' shot.

I love laughter, I love it when you can feel someone
laughing when you look at an image. This bride borrowed
her friends earrings as her something borrowed. Ended up
putting them in backwards. Here the friend is helping to
right the earrings while the bride has a good laugh
about it.

Shadows, they're like the other world. I have always
been drawn to these patterns that resemble parts of the
world we know in their own distorted way.

This was just a sweet moment right after the kiss. This
couple had to postpone their wedding for a year due to
the brides illness. I just love them.

I try to add humor to my images, whenever I can. This
bride just happened to be greeting her friends when she
arrived at the church.
It just makes me giggle!

The dancing, especially the Hora. Fun fun fun!!!
This groom just seems so happy, almost like a kid.

Another Hora shot. It's scary being hoisted high on a
chair (I did it myself at my wedding, yikes!). Yet this
bride is taking it with great stride, she looks so
graceful, way up there.

I like to play with my flash, sometimes successful,
sometimes not.
This couple just happened to look down while I bounced
my flash off the wood dance floor. It worked for me.

DWF - How about some final words to live by?
STACEY - "Do or do not. There is no try."
Not sure who to quote for that one. I keep it tacked to
my computer.
A daily reminder to not wimp out on myself, my work, my
life.
And always wear cute shoes.
