| PORTRAIT Photography's Home on the Web | Yes friends, it's official. The DWF is broadening its horizons, and expanding to include portrait photographers. Most wedding photographers shoot portraits, and there is a growing number of portrait photographers out there. So we’re adding a focus on portraiture on the DWF. What do these changes mean? For now, not a whole heck of a lot. We already have an active DWF Pro Portrait Forum and the DWF Boudoir Forum, as well as other forums where the business of portraiture is discussed—just visit DWF Marketing & Sales, or the Gear Forum! Some of the best portrait shooters are already active on the DWF, like Robert Alvarado and Mark Robert Halper. Are you letting amateur portrait photographers in? New members will be vetted the same way we've always vetted wedding photographers. They need either a web site that markets their services professionally, or a Tax ID number. FlickR, personal blogs and so forth don't qualify. New portrait focused members will help drive better, more in-depth discussion for everyone interested in growing their skill and business in portrait photography. Should we call it the DWPF now? We're not changing the forum's name or logo. The DWF is an abbreviation given by it's members, and we want to hold on to it, because we're proud of our community! Though the changes will be small, you’ll find a new commitment to portraiture on the DWF. For instance, you'll find more portrait focused content on DWF U, in convention seminars and we even have a few surprises up our sleeves! | | We're Looking For A Few Good Portrait Shooters! | No, this isn’t the draft. But we ARE looking for a few people who specialize in portrait to participate as DWF Portrait Experts. Job duties include fostering conversation, providing opinion, advice and support as a subject matter expert. So you want in? Send your inquiries to office@digitalweddingforum.com – or just reply to the newsletter and tell us why you think you should be a DWF Portrait Expert! | | I Suck at Culling Images | That’s what one DWF member says about winnowing down a wedding. DWFers chip in with advice to take the agony and the time out of paring down a shoot for client presentation. About the advice offered in this Pro Business Forum discussion, say “AWESOME advice!”. Should you be ruthless when editing? Should you have a glass of wine first? You’ll find some seriously worthwhile tips here.. | | A Throw-Down! | Is Becker more influential than Annie Liebovitz? PDN’s list of the “30 most influential photographers” has sparked a firestorm of a debate on the DWF. It’s a cracklin’ discussion that’s resulted in one of the world’s best wedding photographers, Yervant, challenging any commercial photographer to a 30 minute shootout. LA Photographer Mark Robert Halper has taken the challenge and we’re making plans for a charity shootout. You, the members of the DWF will be the judges. Read the cracklin’ discussion about which photographers are TRULY important, and the Yervant challenge.. | | Featured Fotographers: Matt & Angie Sloan | This DWF Blog featured member interview brought to you by the letter F. Friendship, family, faith and food (yup food) have helped to make the Sloans what they are today. Fotographers! Also on the Photographers Blog this week. Hint, think iTablet | | Cheesy Photography Infomercial | DWF member Billy Hunt planted his tongue firmly in cheek, and produced a cheesy infomercial for his photography studio. One DWF member who saw the video reports she actually snorted. Some say it’s brilliant, others wonder if it’ll help bring business. Check out Billy’s viral video and tell him what you think in the DWF Marketing Forum. | | Children's Portraiture with Tamara Lackey | Renowned photographer Tamara Lackey has a few lessons coming up on DWF U, with the first already live right now! She goes through a series of images, step by step to tell you about the methods she used to get such fun and wonderful expressions from her subjects. Tamara also has a new DVD out, Inside Contemporary Children's Portraiture, more than a year in the making! Definitely check out her lesson, as well as her new DVD on DWf U! | | Extreme Home Shooting Challenge | Can you imagine being called in for a shoot, but you don’t know where you’ll be shooting, you don’t know how many people you’ll shoot, and there are a half-dozen different people in charge? Congratulations to DWF member Rob Sigler who was tapped to shoot portraits for an episode of ABC’s Extreme Home Makeover. Read about his challenging experience, and see the results of the shoot in the DWF Portrait Forum. | | If you're unable to reach the links above, login to the DWF.
