My Head’s Gonna Explode! |
We love that comment, and hear it over and over here in Nashville, where DWF Convention 2010 is entering it’s final day. DWF members are furiously scrawling notes by day, and partying after dark here in Music City—having just experienced eight full hours with the inimitable Jerry Ghionis. Catch the latest on the Convention and see the pix in the DWF Convention Forum

Water, Water, Everywhere |
It was 4:00 PM on Sunday, 3 hours until the DWF Party starts and we got a phone call. A huge water main break forced the closure of BB King’s – site of the DWF convention party sponsored by ProDPI With less than 3 hours to go, we found a new venue, moved the 10 piece band and notified our guests of the last-minute change. Despite the drama, Finao crowned the convention King and Queen, followed by a sweet and memorable duet featuring Jerry Ghionis and Jeff Caplan. The bar poured drinks, and as the night progressed the party amped up. While it may not have been our most legendary blowout, the partying spirit of our convention goers prevailed! A HUGE thanks goes out to all of our sponsors and attendees for rolling with the punches, and helping us turn out a great event despite the challenges. Thank you all!

Same Sex Weddings and Discrimination |
If a same sex couple wants you to shoot their wedding, do you have to say “yes?” You’ll want to read the details of a court case involving a photographer who didn’t want to shoot commitment ceremony. The ruling: Saying “no” to the couple is discrimination. DWF members are talking up a storm about the case, and you’ll want to read up..

Beckstead Sees Crosses |
DWF PRO and well-known workshop leader David Beckstead is seeing crosses. You’ll often find incredible framing and find geometry in David’s wedding work, especially in this series of posts on the DWF about crosses, and how they keep showing up in his work. But not in the ways you’d expect. David’s work is ALWAYS different.

Metal Prints? |
It’s always cool when something different appears on the scene, and lately we’ve been hearing a lot about large sized metal prints. The photo is printed on aluminum sized for wall display-- and many DWF members think they’re the rage. Others say metal prints are just the flavor of the month. Join the discussion about these new look prints. What do you think? Do your clients like them? How do you price them?

The Marriage of Art & Business on DWF U |
Do you think it's important to be a competent photographer to do well in this business? Mark Robert Halper sure does! Never a fan of mincing words, Mark talks straight on the importance of being a competent and maybe even talented photographer before you start asking for money. You may or may not agree, but there are definitely some interesting things to consider. Love 'em or hate 'em, you have to admit he has the guts to say what might not always be popular, but what may be good for our industry.

Your Chance to be Published |
Do you get stuck for new ideas or have blanks when posing the bride and groom? If so DWF member David Pearce can help. He has asked some of the top names in the industry to contribute to a book he is publishing called “Wedding Photography - A Guide to Posing”. He would also love to offer the chance for a fellow DWF member to have their work published in the book. PM David for details on how to submit and the photographer of the chosen image will get their DWF membership paid for 1 year by David.
