DWF Convention 2010 |
We're proud to announce that registration is now open for DWF Convention 2010 sponsored by Simply Canvas.
Our 10th anniversary convention is going to be a different and exciting change of pace from the usual photography convention. At DWF 2010 you'll learn for a full day from Jerry Ghionis. You’ll receive five hours of instruction from Kevin Kubota. Five hours with Cliff Mautner. Five hours with Jim Garner—all of them listed among the World’s Top 10 Wedding Photographers. Each of them will offer long-form, in-depth presentations. This is more than a slideshow and a few tips! This is an opportunity to go in-depth with the very best, for new and vital shooting and marketing skills.
A workshop with anyone of our DWF Convention speakers would cost $1600, easy. DWF Convention Registration is $495, if you register now.

Is That All? |
DWF 2010 sponsored by Simply Canvas will also feature presentations by two DWF members we’re most proud to bring to our podium: Amy Deputy, recently named American Photo’s Top 10 wedding photographers in the world, Melissa Tirado, who’s distinguished herself alongside her husband Rene as Boston Magazine’s “Best in Boston.” Plus there are more seminars to come, featuring Boudoir and Portrait photography.
The partying and networking? It kicks off the convention as the DWF takes over BB King’s Blues Club in Downtown Nashville for our 10th anniversary party sponsored by ProDPI. Dinner, a 10-piece house band, and live DJ will all be in the house!
Some things never change: The mentor sessions where you can get a one-on-one critique, a trip to the ImagingUSA trade show (transportation provided) and more to come.

Bella Pictures Goes Cheap,
Cheaper and Cheapest |
DWF Pro member Tom Herron blew the whistle in PRO Business when he shared some information about Bella's low-cost brand, Studio Blue. With 9 hours of coverage starting at $1472 including a 9x12 album, the prices really are rock bottom. Wrapped in a pitch for photographers that promises more opportunities to shoot. So where is the corner they're cutting to bring brides photography this low? Time will tell.
Will this be the new threat to wedding photography or will the pros remain mostly unscathed by Bella Blue?

Portraits: Photographing Dark
Skin |
Many photographers worry about photographing African Americans—fearing that the metering should be different, that contrast could be lost, and that they’ll blow the shoot because of their unfamiliarity with shooting darker skin. The DWF PRO Portrait forum is full of advice (and reassurance) from photographers who shoot a variety of skin tones: It ain’t all that different. Plus you’ll catch a great metering tip if you read the thread.
