Heroes Among Us |
Sure,
the DWF is a great place to get answers, fast. But to
thousands of pros, the DWF is a first and foremost, a
community. In the DWF Home Forum, Tamera Goldsmith
writes about suffering a medical emergency, and the wonderful
ways that DWF members stepped up to help her through. Our
community is filled with awesome photographers who’ve come to
the rescue hundreds of times over the years. DWF members have
gone into business together, and even married each other! When
you read about the friendships spawned inside the forums, you
might wonder “how do I get involved?”
If you want to get involved in the all of the networking, it’s
simple: Post! Even if you don’t receive a huge response, post
again. Once your name is out there, it becomes easy to make
valuable contacts.

Creating Drama with Light Fall-Off |
DWF
member Josh Johnson says get your subject close to dim
light, and you’ll get instant drama in your shots, thanks to
the light falloff. Josh is kind enough to post a beautiful
example in the DWF Pro Art Forum. This is the beauty of the
DWF: Josh put this beautiful image out there, and received
both kudos and healthy critiques.. including one from Jerry
Ghionis. Where else can you get
that?!

It's the DWF Platinum Party 2009! |
You
fit in one of three categories. Those who went to the DWF
Platinum Party at PhotoPlus Expo, and remember it as one
of the most awesome events of the year, those who went to the
DWF Platinum Party and don't remember anything because it WAS
one of the most awesome events of the year, and those who wish
they'd been at the most awesome event of the year!
Regardless, the DWF Platinum Party @ PhotoPlus Expo is a
signature event hosted by none other than NYC Photographer
Jason Groupp. There's going to be another insane drink
menu, and digs to fit a much bigger crowd. Make plans to be
there!

Too Many Images? |
It
started with a simple question, and it’s burning up the DWF
Pro Business Forum. DWF Member Mario Masitti asks “why
do you deliver so many images to your client?” Some shooters
wonder if a client’s head explodes after receiving 1200
images. Others offer even more images in their packages.
Scores of members offer reveal the size of their proof sets,
and more important, why they choose that number.

Featured Member Interview with Cliff Mautner |
Cliff
Mautner has been a contributing member of the DWF and a
standout in the wedding photography industry for years now.
Most recently Cliff was awarded the 2009 Grand Award in
Wedding Photojournalism at WPPI and named by American Photo
magazine as one of the Top 10 Wedding Photographers in
the World. It's no secret that Cliff believes in a grass roots
approach to wedding photography and he offers us this advice..
"The only way to develop a style of your own is to make the
technical elements and fundamentals of photography completely
instinctive. You can’t think about this stuff. It has to come
to you without processing it. That’s the only way you can
create. If you’re so hung up on exposure values, lens
selection, focusing, and all of that other nonsense, you’re
not thinking about composing an image."
